Whilst completing his studies at Sydney University, Tom was fulfilling a representative swimming career. He competed at multiple open national championships, including commonwealth and Olympic trial competitions. After hanging up the goggles, Tom then focused on furthered study and applying his knowledge of aquatic biomechanics to his favoured team sport of water polo. Aside from playing for Sydney University, Tom also commenced physiotherapy work within the sport itself and is now one of the current Australian Men’s water polo physiotherapists.
Tom has recently returned from work with the Australian Olympic Men’s water polo team in Rio and is presently assisting setup of the water polo program for the next 4 years to achieve the goals established for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.
Previously Tom has worked at the NSW institute of Sports Medicine looking after various sports including but not limited to: rugby union, rugby league, Australian rules football, netball, athletics, triathlon and soccer. Whilst working at the institute, Tom also operated a Sydney city based clinic which involved physiotherapy management of corporate health, running/cycling clubs and worked with dancers from the Sydney dance company.
Incorporating his background as an exercise physiologist and a current physiotherapist, Tom is equipped to diagnose and treat injuries across all levels of sport and general life. With the application of current research, Tom utilises various techniques such as: myofascial trigger point release, massage, dry needling, strength and biomechanics re-training to individualise each patient’s physiotherapy program. This ensures optimal management throughout every phase of rehabilitation with a sustained return to full function and high performance.
