Andrew McCann - Physiotherapist

Andrew McCann graduated from Charles Sturt University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Exercise Science and Rehabilitation. In 2006, Andrew also attained Level 1 qualifications in Strength and Conditioning through the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association. Andrew then spent 2007 in Jakarta, Indonesia working as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Indonesian Olympic Team in the lead up to the Beijing Olympics. In 2008, Andrew returned to Australia to complete a postgraduate Masters of Physiotherapy at Sydney University, from which he graduated in 2009. Andrew is also a member of the Australian Physiotherapists Association and a full time employee at Sydney Sports Medicine Centre.

Andrew’s involvement with sport has seen him work with the North West Sydney Koalas Female Rep Soccer Team, Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL team in their founding year, as Head Physiotherapist for the Newington College Rugby Program, as well as with a number of Paralympic athletes in a variety of sports including Goal Ball, Wheelchair Basketball, Cycling, Rowing and Athletics. Andrew’s position at Sydney sports Medicine Centre has also seen him involved with a number of NSW Institute athletes from many sports including Track and Field, Swimming, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rowing and Hockey.

Andrew uses a holistic, hands on approach with his Physiotherapy treatment, ensuring that he considers all possible related elements in his diagnosis, clinical reasoning and treatment. He has a particular interest in lumbo-pelvic pain and its systemic effects on the body, shoulder pathology as well as knee and ankle injuries. Andrew also utilizes his strong background in rehabilitation and strength and conditioning to optimize rehabilitation and strength programs for patients.

Andrew previously competed in Rugby and Cricket primarily, and represented combined the GPS Cricket Team in 2000 and 2001, and was also a member of the NSW Country Cockatoo Rugby side between 2003 and 2006.
