Active Control Exercise Classes
The Active Control classes are small group classes, designed for people with a history of back, hip or groin pain. Alternatively, it may be for those who just want to improve core muscle activation and trunk control in an attempt to reduce injury risk. The initial focus of these classes will be re-educating the brain to identify and contract the inner core muscles then progressing to address overall core muscle strength and function.
The classes consider the whole body so attention is also given to neck and arm function. Progression occurs each week by providing more challenging exercise and functional tasks. The classes are run by physiotherapists with expertise in core control. They will check that correct core muscle activation is performed at all times during the session. This will ensure active control is transferable to every day function or sporting activity.
Active Control classes consist of a 6-week course of 1hr classes, comprising a maximum of 8 participants. The classes consist of a variety of floor, ball, foam roller and resistance type exercises, which will be translated into a comprehensive take-home exercise program so you can continue the regime at home. We do also offer continuation classes which run for 10 weeks. These enable the participant to maintain their muscle strength and function learned in the introductory classes.
Participants who want that extra advantage can take up the opportunity of an initial one-on-one assessment with a physiotherapist using real-time ultrasound. This gives a visual assessment as to the status of muscle control, and to teach basic activation of the inner core muscles.
At the conclusion of the course participants should feel they have, less pain and improved function through better active control, strength and stability to manage daily activities and or sporting tasks more efficiently.
